I’ve noticed a trend over the past two years. While simple, I can’t say I started the trend. For me, the trend began when I photographed my own son. At that time his personality was goofy and unpredictable. In other words, he was a typical high school senior boy. Just like any other parent, I wanted to capture all of those quirks and expressions in my son’s “tux” portrait. But there was a catch, He didn’t want to wear a traditional tux and instead opted for a double breasted, slim fit suit jacket. Such a stylish ensemble demanded a non-traditional pose.
Since that time spent created my own’s son’s portraits I’ve noticed that all of the young men we photograph want the same thing.
They want non-traditional suit portraits. Not a tux, unless of course it’s their tux.
The poses are so informal that we can’t call them “Formal Portraits”. I like to think of the as GQ suit portraits. They are editorial style portraits for the graduating senior boy.
